As we transition to a low carbon energy system, we are investing in new technologies to help ensure Gippsland continues to play a role in Australia’s energy market.

Australia’s renewables-based energy system needs lots of solar, wind, and storage capacity, and importantly it will also need gas-fired generation in reserve as we transition to a clean energy future. EnergyAustralia’s gas-fired power station, Jeeralang Power Station is only 20 minutes away from Yallourn. Upgrades have been made to the Jeeralang Power Station to help ensure it can provide quick-fire energy capacity when there isn’t enough wind and solar in the system to meet demand.

EnergyAustralia is also building the 350MW/1400MWh Wooreen Energy Storage System next to our Jeeralang Power Station to help store surplus energy for when customers need it. The project expects to see up to 80 jobs required during construction.
